Emelia “Tet” Cudiamat grew up living a very comfortable life with her family in Batangas. As the youngest among two children of Corazon and Augusto, she and her Kuya Tot had the privilege to enjoy what most kids weren’t able to enjoy her age, made possible by both of their parents. Augusto already earned a lot as an OFW, but Corazon still continued to work hard juggling between being hands on both on her beerhouse business and looking after her two kids. Until Augusto comes home one day with no job which then led to issues that tested the family both emotionally and financially. With big dreams still planted in Corazon’s heart for her kids, she decides to work abroad in Italy sacrificing her own business and the life close to her children. Because of this, she is able to solve the financial problems which weighed her family down and apart. Her children were able to enjoy life comfortably again. Tet finished college but Tot dropped out after being involved in a riot—both of them not knowing what Corazon had to pay for all of this. But this is only until they witness and experience it themselves when both of them join Nanay Corazon in Italy. As Tet watches her Corazon kneel to scrub toilets, she finds in her heart a burning determination to change the course of her family’s future. Another obstacle goes in their way when Augusto who is in the Philippines then had a stroke. With no hesitations, Nanay flies back home. Provided this, Tet takes over her mom’s work as a home cleaner. Tet gets to live the price Nanay paid for them, for her. But she is really determined and eventually finds better opportunities in Italy. It only took a year until her Nanay decides to fly back, this time with her sick mom’s work as a home cleaner. Tet gets to live the price Nanay paid for them, for her. But she is really determined and eventually finds better opportunities in Italy. It only took a year until her Nanay decides to fly back, this time with her sick husband. Despite what her children are already earning then, Nanay still goes back to cleaning houses. Meanwhile, Tet is working her way up her ladder and eventually she becomes a boss in a real estate company. Having had the opportunity to know more OFWs then and their situations, Tet’s desire to help her family grew to helping her fellow OFWs. At present, Tet is able to bring her family back home and rewards her mother the success they have all achieved in life. She also continues to teach financial literacy to her fellow OFWs through a campaign she founded “OFW AKO! TINDIG NA” which literally aims to help OFWs stand up, as inspired by the moment she saw her beloved mother kneel down and scrub toilets.
