Youngest amongst five siblings, Gemma was the only one in the family who wanted to finish school, have a respectable job and eventually help her family. But aside from poverty, Gemma had a difficult time in achieving her dream because her father, Enggoy, did not want to send them to school. Enggoy believed that sending his children to school was just a waste of time and money. With the lack of support, Gemma decided to join the Rodeo Masbateño scene and become one of the cowgirls. Gemma did not mind the danger of being a cowgirl, because aside from her financial needs, being a cowgirl gave Gemma the happiness that she could not find with her father. But more than that, Enggoy saw Gemma’s determination giving her Enggoy’s respect and eventually his support.
